Healthy Black Man Challenge Week 34: Watch How You Talk to Yourself

BrotherStrong Weekly Encouragement and Prayer
Healthy Black Man Challenge Week 34
Focus: Healthy Self, The Power of Self Talk
Week of August 24, 2026
Theme: "Watch How You Talk to Yourself"

Weekly Encouragement

Brother,

There is a voice you hear more than any other voice in your life.

Your own.

Before anyone else encourages you, criticizes you, celebrates you, or doubts you, there is already a conversation happening inside your head.

And that conversation matters.

What have you been saying to yourself?

"I'm not good enough."

"I'm too old."

"I should be further along."

"I always mess things up."

"Nothing ever works out for me."

Sometimes we would never speak to another man the way we speak to ourselves.

Brother, your words have power, even when you are the only one hearing them.

Healthy self talk is not pretending everything is perfect.

It is learning how to speak truth to yourself when life is difficult.

Instead of saying, "I failed," remind yourself, "I experienced a setback, but I can learn from it."

Instead of saying, "I can't do this," remind yourself, "I may not know how yet, but I can learn."

Instead of saying, "I'm not enough," remind yourself, "I am still growing, and my value is not determined by this moment."

You have spent thirty four weeks working on becoming a healthier man.

Do not allow the voice inside your head to tear down the man you are working so hard to build.

Speak life to yourself.

Speak grace to yourself.

Speak possibility to yourself.

And when that negative voice gets loud, answer it with truth.

Brother, you deserve to hear encouragement from yourself too.

Weekly Prayer

God,

Thank You for reminding us that our words have power.

Help us become aware of the things we say to ourselves.

When our thoughts become negative, replace them with truth.

When we doubt ourselves, remind us of who You created us to be.

When we focus on our failures, remind us of Your grace.

When we feel inadequate, remind us that we are still growing.

Teach us to speak to ourselves with wisdom, patience, compassion, and faith.

Guard our minds from thoughts that diminish our worth and distract us from our purpose.

Let the voice within us become a voice that encourages growth rather than destroys confidence.

Help us see ourselves through Your eyes.

Amen.

Weekly Activation: Week 34 Challenge

Theme: Change the Conversation

Mind: Pay attention to your self talk this week. Every time you catch yourself saying something negative about yourself, write it down. Then rewrite the statement in a way that is truthful, healthy, and constructive.

Body: Stand in front of the mirror at least three mornings this week and speak one positive statement about yourself out loud. Not about how you look. About who you are becoming.

Spirit: Choose one scripture that reminds you of who God says you are. Read it every morning this week before you begin your day.

Reflection Question: Would I speak to another Black man I love the way I sometimes speak to myself?

The Journey Continues

Thirty four weeks into this journey, you have learned that becoming a healthy man requires more than changing what you do.

Sometimes you have to change what you believe about yourself.

You cannot build a healthy life while constantly speaking defeat over yourself.

You cannot develop confidence while rehearsing everything you dislike about yourself.

You cannot fully embrace your future while continually condemning yourself for your past.

Healthy Self includes a healthy inner voice.

Give yourself the same encouragement you so freely give everyone else.

There is already enough in this world trying to convince Black men that we are less than.

Do not join the chorus against yourself.

Weekly Affirmation

I speak life over myself.

I am worthy of grace while I grow.

My mistakes do not define me.

My past does not limit my future.

I believe in the man I am becoming.

A Word to Black Women Reading This

Your words matter.

Sometimes more than you know.

There are Black men who appear confident on the outside while privately wrestling with doubt, insecurity, disappointment, and feelings of inadequacy.

A sincere word of affirmation can reach places criticism never will.

This week, help us remind Black men of what is good in them.

Not because they are perfect.

But because they are human, they are growing, and encouragement matters.

And please continue sharing the Healthy Black Man Challenge each week with every Black man you know.

Share it with your son.

Share it with your husband or partner.

Share it with your father.

Share it with your brothers.

Share it with your coworkers and friends.

Invite every Black man you know to join us on this journey toward becoming healthier in body, soul, and spirit.

Thank you for speaking life into Black men.

Thank you for seeing strength in Black men even when we sometimes struggle to see it in ourselves.

Thank you for continuing to believe in healthy, whole, and growing Black men.

Weekly Challenge for Women

This week, speak something positive into the life of one Black man.

Do not simply tell him, "You're a good man."

Tell him why.

"I admire the way you take care of your family."

"I see how hard you're working to become better."

"I appreciate the way you show up for people."

"I respect your integrity."

"I'm proud of the man you're becoming."

Be specific.

Be sincere.

And do not be surprised if he remembers your words much longer than you expected.

Closing Reflection

Pay attention to the voice inside your head this week.

Because that voice travels everywhere you go.

Make sure it is helping you become the man you are working to become.

Correct yourself when necessary.

Challenge yourself when necessary.

Hold yourself accountable when necessary.

But never confuse accountability with self destruction.

You can acknowledge where you need to grow without hating where you are.

You can recognize your mistakes without believing you are one.

You can challenge yourself while still loving yourself.

So speak life, Brother.

Especially when you are speaking to yourself.

Because the voice you hear every day should not be the voice convincing you that you cannot become everything God created you to be.

Until all have been touched... keep reaching!
