BrotherStrong Weekly Encouragement and Prayer
Healthy Black Man Challenge Week 42
Focus: Healthy Self, Recognizing Your Worth and Celebrating Your Growth
Week of October 19, 2026
Theme: "Give Yourself Some Credit"
Weekly Encouragement
Brother,
When was the last time you were genuinely proud of yourself?
Not because somebody applauded you.
Not because someone gave you an award.
Not because your name was called.
Not because someone recognized what you accomplished.
Simply because you looked at your life and realized:
"I've come a long way."
Sometimes we are so focused on what we have not accomplished that we forget to acknowledge what we have.
We remember the mistakes.
We remember the missed opportunities.
We remember the goals we have not reached.
We remember the things we wish we had done differently.
But brother, what about the things you got right?
What about the battles you survived?
What about the habits you changed?
What about the relationships you repaired?
What about the difficult conversations you finally had?
What about the boundaries you established?
What about the times you wanted to quit but kept going?
What about the man you are today compared to the man you were a year ago?
Brother, give yourself some credit.
You may not be where you want to be.
But you are not necessarily where you used to be either.
And that matters.
For many Black men, we have become experts at recognizing what still needs to be done while overlooking everything we have already accomplished.
We move from one responsibility to another.
One goal to another.
One problem to another.
One accomplishment to the next assignment.
And somewhere along the way, we forget to celebrate ourselves.
But brother, celebrating your growth is not arrogance.
It is acknowledgment.
It is recognizing that the work has mattered.
That the sacrifices have mattered.
That the prayers have mattered.
That the difficult decisions have mattered.
That the healing has mattered.
You do not have to wait until you have accomplished everything to celebrate something.
You do not have to be perfect to be proud of your progress.
And you do not need permission from anybody else to acknowledge that you are becoming a better man.
This week, stop for a moment.
Look at your life.
Remember where you started.
Recognize what you have overcome.
And tell yourself:
"Brother, I'm proud of you."
Because sometimes the encouragement you have been waiting to receive from someone else needs to come from you.
Weekly Prayer
God,
Thank You for bringing us this far.
Thank You for every lesson, every victory, every challenge, and every opportunity to grow.
Forgive us for the times we have focused so much on what is missing that we failed to appreciate what You have already done.
Help us recognize the progress we have made.
Remind us of the prayers You have answered.
Remind us of the obstacles You have helped us overcome.
Remind us of the strength we discovered in difficult seasons.
Teach us to celebrate our growth without becoming prideful.
Teach us to acknowledge our accomplishments without comparing ourselves to others.
Help us see ourselves with gratitude, humility, and confidence.
For every brother who feels like he has not done enough, remind him that his life still has value.
For every brother who has been discouraged by what remains unfinished, help him recognize what has already changed.
Give us the wisdom to appreciate the journey while continuing to pursue the future.
And help us become men who know how to encourage ourselves as faithfully as we encourage others.
Amen.
Weekly Activation: Week 42 Challenge
Theme: Recognize Your Progress
Mind: Write down ten things you are proud of accomplishing, overcoming, or changing this year. They do not have to be major accomplishments.
Maybe you became more patient.
Maybe you started exercising.
Maybe you made a difficult decision.
Maybe you apologized.
Maybe you asked for help.
Maybe you simply refused to give up.
Write them down.
Then read them aloud.
Body: Celebrate your physical progress this week. Think about one way you have taken better care of your body in 2026.
Maybe you have become more active.
Maybe you improved your sleep.
Maybe you scheduled a medical appointment.
Maybe you became more intentional about what you eat.
If you have not made the progress you wanted, choose one positive action you can take today.
Recognize your effort and recommit to your health.
Spirit: Spend fifteen minutes thanking God specifically for the ways you have grown this year. Not just for what He has given you. But for who you are becoming.
Reflection Question: Why is it sometimes easier for me to recognize my shortcomings than to celebrate my accomplishments?
The Journey Continues
Forty two weeks.
Think about that.
For forty two weeks, we have been challenging ourselves to become healthier in body, soul, and spirit.
We have examined our habits.
Our emotions.
Our relationships.
Our finances.
Our health.
Our discipline.
Our faith.
Our peace.
Our purpose.
And our willingness to grow.
Some weeks you followed through.
Some weeks you struggled.
Some weeks you probably forgot about the challenge altogether.
But here you are.
Still reading.
Still reflecting.
Still becoming.
And brother, that deserves acknowledgment.
We have ten weeks remaining in this year's Healthy Black Man Challenge.
Do not spend those ten weeks criticizing yourself for everything you did not accomplish during the first forty two.
Use them to build upon what you have learned.
Healthy Self means recognizing both where you need to grow and where you have already grown.
You can be grateful for your progress while remaining committed to improvement.
You can be proud of yourself and still be a work in progress.
Weekly Affirmation
I am proud of the man I am becoming.
My progress deserves acknowledgment.
I celebrate growth without comparing myself to others.
I recognize my accomplishments, even when they seem small.
I honor the lessons that have shaped me.
I am grateful for how far I have come.
I give myself permission to be proud of me.
A Word to Black Women Reading This
To every Black woman reading this,
This week, we are encouraging Black men to recognize their own growth and celebrate their accomplishments.
Sometimes the Black man in your life has been so focused on providing, protecting, working, and meeting expectations that he has forgotten to acknowledge his own progress.
He may have accomplished something significant and immediately moved on to the next responsibility.
He may have overcome something difficult without ever stopping to recognize what it took.
He may be growing in ways that he has not yet learned to appreciate.
This week, help us remind Black men that their growth matters.
Not only the big accomplishments.
Not only the promotions.
Not only the financial achievements.
But also the emotional growth.
The increased patience.
The improved communication.
The willingness to apologize.
The commitment to health.
The courage to ask for help.
The decision to become better.
And please continue sharing the Healthy Black Man Challenge each week with every Black man you know.
Share it with your son.
Share it with your husband or partner.
Share it with your father.
Share it with your brothers.
Share it with your coworkers and friends.
Invite every Black man you know to join us as we continue becoming healthier in body, soul, and spirit.
Thank you for recognizing the growth of Black men.
Thank you for celebrating our progress.
Thank you for reminding us that we do not have to be perfect to be appreciated.
And thank you for continuing to believe in the men we are becoming.
Weekly Challenge for Women
This week, tell one Black man something specific that makes you proud of him.
Not something you hope he will do.
Not something you wish he would change.
Something you have already seen him accomplish.
Tell him:
"I don't know if anybody has told you lately, but I'm proud of the way you've grown."
Then tell him why.
Maybe he has become more patient.
Maybe he has taken better care of himself.
Maybe he has been more intentional about his relationships.
Maybe he has remained faithful through a difficult season.
Whatever it is, acknowledge it.
Sometimes a man needs to know that the work he is doing on himself is being seen.
Closing Reflection
Brother,
You have made it through some things that could have taken you out.
You have survived seasons that challenged your faith.
You have carried responsibilities that stretched your strength.
You have made mistakes.
You have learned lessons.
You have lost some things.
You have gained some wisdom.
And through it all, you are still here.
Still growing.
Still learning.
Still becoming.
Do not minimize that.
Do not dismiss your progress because somebody else appears to be further along.
Do not overlook your accomplishments because there is still work to do.
Do not wait for the world to celebrate you before you learn to appreciate yourself.
Brother, there is nothing wrong with looking in the mirror and saying:
"I'm proud of the man I'm becoming."
Not because you have arrived.
But because you have refused to stop growing.
Not because you have done everything right.
But because you are learning from what you got wrong.
Not because the journey has been easy.
But because you are still on it.
So this week, celebrate something about yourself.
Acknowledge your growth.
Appreciate your progress.
And thank God for bringing you this far.
Brother, give yourself some credit.
You've earned the right to recognize how far you've come.
Until all have been touched... keep reaching!
Jeremy
