BrotherStrong Weekly Encouragement and Prayer
Healthy Black Man Challenge Week 43
Focus: Healthy Self, Identity and Authenticity
Week of October 26, 2026
Theme: "You Do Not Have to Be Anybody but You"
Weekly Encouragement
Brother,
Who are you when you are not trying to be what everybody else needs you to be?
Not the provider.
Not the protector.
Not the leader.
Not the husband.
Not the father.
Not the employee.
Not the entrepreneur.
Not the pastor.
Not the man everybody calls when something needs to be done.
Just you.
Who is that man?
For many Black men, we have spent so much of our lives fulfilling roles that we sometimes lose sight of the person behind them.
We learn what people expect.
We learn how we are supposed to behave.
We learn what strength is supposed to look like.
We learn what success is supposed to look like.
We learn which emotions we are allowed to express.
We learn which parts of ourselves to hide.
And somewhere along the way, we may begin confusing who we are with who we have been taught to become.
Brother, there is a difference between growing into a better man and pretending to be a different man.
You can improve without abandoning yourself.
You can mature without losing your personality.
You can become more disciplined without losing your joy.
You can become emotionally healthy without becoming someone you do not recognize.
You can be strong and sensitive.
You can be confident and humble.
You can be successful and still have questions.
You can be a leader and still need guidance.
You can be a man of faith and still experience doubt.
You can be responsible and still enjoy having fun.
You can be all of those things because you are human.
Brother, you do not have to fit into somebody else's definition of what a Black man should be.
Your worth is not determined by how closely you resemble another man's journey.
Your personality is not a weakness.
Your individuality is not something to apologize for.
Your story does not have to look like anybody else's story to have value.
And your purpose does not have to receive everybody's approval to be meaningful.
There is freedom in knowing who you are.
There is peace in accepting who you are.
And there is strength in becoming comfortable enough with yourself that you no longer feel the need to perform for everybody else.
This week, stop asking:
"Who do they need me to be?"
And begin asking:
"Who am I becoming when I am fully honest with myself?"
Because brother, the world does not need another copy of somebody else.
It needs the healthiest, most authentic version of you.
Weekly Prayer
God,
Thank You for creating each of us with purpose, value, and individuality.
Thank You for the gifts, experiences, personalities, and perspectives that make us who we are.
Forgive us for the times we have compared ourselves to others.
Forgive us for the times we have hidden parts of ourselves because we feared rejection.
Forgive us for the times we have confused the expectations of people with the purpose You have placed within us.
Help us discover who we truly are.
Give us the courage to live authentically.
Give us the wisdom to recognize where we need to grow without rejecting the person You created.
Help us release the need for constant approval.
Teach us to be honest about our strengths.
Honest about our weaknesses.
Honest about our emotions.
Honest about our dreams.
And honest about the areas where we are still becoming.
Remove the pressure to perform.
Replace comparison with contentment.
Replace insecurity with confidence.
Replace pretending with peace.
Help us become men who are comfortable in our own skin, grounded in our values, and faithful to the purpose You have given us.
Amen.
Weekly Activation: Week 43 Challenge
Theme: Get Comfortable Being You
Mind: Spend twenty minutes this week answering these questions:
Who am I beyond my titles and responsibilities?
What are three qualities I genuinely appreciate about myself?
Where in my life am I pretending, performing, or seeking approval instead of being authentic?
Write your answers without judging them.
Body: Do one thing this week that reflects your genuine personality and interests.
Not because it is popular.
Not because someone expects it.
Not because it makes you look successful.
Simply because you enjoy it.
Wear something you love.
Listen to your favorite music.
Explore a hobby.
Visit a place that interests you.
Give yourself permission to express who you are.
Spirit: Spend time reflecting on Psalm 139:14. Thank God for creating you with intention. Then pray: "God, help me become everything You created me to be without pretending to be someone I am not."
Reflection Question: What part of myself have I been hiding because I am afraid it will not be accepted by others?
The Journey Continues
Brother,
Forty three weeks into the Healthy Black Man Challenge, we have spent a significant amount of time examining what we do.
Our habits.
Our decisions.
Our discipline.
Our health.
Our finances.
Our relationships.
Our emotional responses.
Our responsibilities.
But this week, we are examining something deeper.
Who we are.
Because Healthy Self is not simply about improving behavior.
It is about developing a healthy relationship with yourself.
You cannot fully care for a man you have never taken the time to understand.
You cannot fully appreciate a man you are constantly comparing to somebody else.
And you cannot fully become yourself while spending your life trying to satisfy everybody else's expectations.
Brother, there are nine weeks remaining in this year's challenge.
As we prepare to complete our year of Healthy Self, I want you to remember something.
The goal was never to turn every Black man into the same man.
The goal was to encourage every Black man to become a healthier version of himself.
Your journey is yours.
Your story is yours.
Your purpose is yours.
And the responsibility to live it belongs to you.
Weekly Affirmation
I am comfortable being myself.
I do not need to become someone else to have value.
My individuality is a gift.
I embrace my strengths and acknowledge where I need to grow.
I release the need for constant approval.
I am becoming the healthiest version of the man God created me to be.
I am enough to begin, and I am still becoming.
A Word to Black Women Reading This
To every Black woman reading this,
This week, we are encouraging Black men to embrace their identity and become comfortable being themselves.
Sometimes the Black man in your life has spent years trying to meet expectations that were placed upon him long before he understood who he was.
Expectations about strength.
Expectations about success.
Expectations about providing.
Expectations about leadership.
Expectations about how a man should think, feel, behave, and express himself.
And sometimes those expectations leave very little room for him to simply be human.
This week, help us remind Black men that their individuality matters.
That their emotions matter.
That their interests matter.
That their personalities matter.
That their dreams matter.
And that they do not have to become somebody else to deserve love, respect, and encouragement.
Please continue sharing the Healthy Black Man Challenge each week with every Black man you know.
Share it with your son.
Share it with your husband or partner.
Share it with your father.
Share it with your brothers.
Share it with your coworkers and friends.
Invite every Black man you know to continue this journey toward becoming healthier in body, soul, and spirit.
Thank you for encouraging Black men to embrace who they are.
Thank you for creating spaces where Black men can be authentic.
Thank you for reminding us that our value extends far beyond our titles, responsibilities, and accomplishments.
And thank you for continuing to believe in the men we are becoming.
Weekly Challenge for Women
This week, ask one Black man in your life:
"What is something about yourself that you wish more people understood or appreciated?"
Then listen.
Do not correct his answer.
Do not dismiss it.
Do not turn it into a conversation about what he needs to change.
Simply give him the opportunity to share something about himself.
And if appropriate, tell him:
"I appreciate that about you."
Sometimes the greatest gift you can give someone is the freedom to be fully themselves without feeling judged.
Closing Reflection
Brother,
You have spent a lifetime becoming the man you are today.
Some of that journey has been beautiful.
Some of it has been painful.
Some of it has been confusing.
Some of it has required you to grow in ways you never expected.
But through it all, you have been becoming.
And the journey is not over.
You still have things to learn.
You still have habits to change.
You still have wounds to heal.
You still have dreams to pursue.
You still have purpose to fulfill.
But none of those things require you to abandon who you are.
Brother, stop apologizing for your individuality.
Stop measuring your life against another man's timeline.
Stop believing you must fit somebody else's expectations to be valuable.
Be honest.
Be responsible.
Be compassionate.
Be disciplined.
Be courageous.
Be authentic.
And most importantly, be willing to keep growing.
Because becoming a better man should never require you to stop being yourself.
The world has enough people pretending.
Be you, Brother.
And become the healthiest version of you that this world has ever seen.
Until all have been touched... keep reaching!
Jeremy
